EVESHAM United have bolstered their squad ahead of today’s Calor Southern League Division One South and West visit of Merthyr Town with the signing of defender Will Wellon.

The 25-year-old centre-half joins from Slimbridge and could make his debut for the Robins against the second-placed Martyrs at the Spiers and Hartwell Jubilee Stadium (1pm).

Manager Paul Collicutt has been looking to add to his squad and is currently without defender Adam Millard, who is in Australia watching the Ashes. Evesham are looking to bounce back after they were hammered 6-2 at home by Wimborne Town last Saturday.

Keeper Louie Barnfather, deputising for the injured John Bateman (hip), was sent off after conceding a penalty with the score at 2-1 to the visitors and coach Gary Baines had to take over between the posts.

It was United’s second defeat in three games, after they were beaten 3-2 by leaders Cirencester Town, but they did win 1-0 at Stratford Town on Boxing Day. Today’s match is subject to an 8.30am pitch inspection.
