Warriors can pull off great escape — Ryan

Worcester News: ROAD TO RECOVERY: Warriors ace Agustin Creevy. ROAD TO RECOVERY: Warriors ace Agustin Creevy.

DEAN Ryan insists Worcester Warriors are not accepting relegation as a forgone conclusion and believes they can pull off the great escape.

Defeat to London Irish last Saturday was the Sixways side’s 12th out of 12 in the Aviva Premiership and did little to improve their chances of beating the drop.

Eleven points now separate them from Newcastle with 10 games remaining once the competition resumes following the break for the Amlin Challenge Cup and LV=Cup.

Ryan was critical of fans who questioned the commitment of players in the wake of the Irish loss but he has reiterated his faith in the squad.

The director of rugby said: “I still believe that if the group gets itself in the right place then every single game is up for grabs. I know we haven’t got the returns on that but we have shown in the past five or six weeks that we can be competitive.

“This group are now working really hard to try and avoid relegation and we’re going to keep trying really hard until statistically that’s not possible.

“We’re not prepared to not take on that challenge or accept that relegation is something that we’re facing.

“The next 10 games allows us an opportunity and we’re not accepting that we can’t take that.

“The weekend’s result made it a little bit more diffficult, we’re not hiding from that or trying to pretend that we don’t know what the truth is.

“But we’ve got to learn what happened to us because there’s no doubt the team that played on the weekend didn’t represent itself the way it has done the previous five or six weeks.”

Warriors now face back-to-back Amlin Challenge Cup matches against Sale Sharks on Friday and at home to Oyonnax the following Saturday.

Ryan will use the fixtures to give more time to the club’s youngsters, such as Max Stelling and Ben Howard, who both signed senior contracts this week.

But the break from Premiership action will also allow captain Jonathan Thomas (concussion) and hooker Agustín Creevy (knee) to get themselves fit.

The Sixways chief said: “There is an opportunity for people still to be in the mix selection-wise.

“Part of the reason we’ve chopped and changed selection is because nobody’s really nailed down a position, especially in some key areas.

“That means it’s up for grabs still and that allows some of those that have been on the fringes to have a go and see if they can put their hand up. Then we go back into the Premiership and we’ll see if we can fight our way out of this.”

Utter tosh. We never turned up against Irish and there was only one way hat game was going with that sort of performance.

I'm glad Mr Ryan has faith in his team, however misguided, but there needs to be preparations being made now, for the inevitable come the end of the season.

Biggest thing Dean is a solid number 10. Oh and don't keep slamming the fans for the players' performances as when fans bite back, DOR's tend to receive p45's. We're not stupid and have been following and supporting this club for a darn site longer than you and most of the players.

Finally most of us don't live with our mums anymore so can't use the computer in their back room!!!!!

How can someone who keeps telling the world what is wrong with our club, culture, player quality, indeed supporters in every avenue of media then expect us to follow him.

Could somebody please advise him in public relations... because he isn't making many friends or influencing anyone at the moment.

When all is said and done I still wish him and the team the very best I really just wish a winning streak was sooner rather than later.

Got to dash now.... Mom wants to watch her telly in her back room!

While I don't agree with Dean can he really come out and say we are doomed and I don't want most of the players at the club?

If Dean says we can avoid relegation, then we can avoid relegation. I don't know where he wrote this rubbish, it was not on his mum's computer in the back room, it's more likely to be on a typewriter in a dark room.

Seems that there are a number of people prepared to **** Ryan whatever he says.

Where in the article has he tried to blame the fans, refs, weather, travel plans, lack of sleep or anything else?

welshpricey accuses him of being dishonest and spinning whilst One or Two wants him to spout some pr guff and not tell it how it is - you can't both be right!

If it's rubbish zx, what do you expect him to say?

Brummagem Bertie has only obviously ever read this article and not the rubbish touted over the last several months. Needless to say I'm not going to go back over it all but everyone else seems to know what the others are talking about. How about searching past articles and getting up to speed, especially the ones where he blames the fans for lack of support and negative comments.

welshpricey, this thread is for comments on this article, or perhaps I should post my opinion on the relationship between our predicament and the current spat betwee the WRU and the Welsh regions?

And I am well aware of the articles to which you refer, in none of which has Ryan blamed the fans for lack of support and negative comments as being why we are where we are.

Bertie, if anyone can make it up on behalf of the club it's you. Ryan had a go at the supporters for their negative comments FACT. He also accused us of using our mum's comuters in the back room FACT. The one thing you do not do is treat the people who pay his & the tripe he calls a team (and proberbly yours) idiots, whicu is what he inferred.

This artical is no different, it's rubbish, we have to win 4 more games than Newcastle & hope they don't even pick up a bonus point. Pigs might fly, but you are the only person that seems to be able to see them.

I saw the comment about using a computer in mum's back room and thought it was quite funny, but then I like sarcasm. As far as Ryan's other comments were concerned I struggle to see what was controversial. He said that questioning the commitment of the players wasn't helpful or accurate and wouldn't help the club and the team move forward. That seems blatantly obvious to me.

There seem to be far too many supporters who believe that Ryan should start flogging the troops until morale and performances improve. I wonder how they would feel if their manager felt the need to tear them a new one in the local press and on social media every time they had a bad day at the office?

And there's nothing wrong with my eyesight. Ryan said right at the start of the season that relegation was a real possibility this season and I have always believed him. That doesn't mean that the team shouldn't keep trying and I can't keep my fingers crossed!

I'm also sorry that you flunked maths; 3 wins and no bonus point would be enough.

Most can see what has gone on and what is going on at the club, but he/she only ever wants to continually spout on about the negatives, which is about as clever as publicly stating night follows day...he/she then recently volunteers an undying love for Cornish Pirates..I ask you..perhaps his/her moniker should be changed to zzzzzzzzzzzzzz?

Your so kind chaps, but you will find that the Pirates have won one or two games more than Worcester in the last two years, in fact a lot more.
I don't have an undying love for them, but being able to watch good committed rugby in lovely surroundings is a tad better than the tripe dished out at Sadways which is anything but lovely.

Sorry Bertie I did press the wrong button on Mum's computer, but 4 wins would be even better.

Now i'll return to my slumbers, please wake me yeller when we win a game.

I am sorry but the Pirates play in the championship and yes I suspect we will be playing them next year. However I know we will have a lot better win percentage than they do next season.

If watching a winning team is all you care about may I suggest you move to China and make friends with the underground betting rings and "support" which ever team has been picked to win the football game that week. It should satisfy your needs.
