Referee cost us, fumes City boss Heeley
11:01am Monday 27th January 2014 in Sport
MANAGER Carl Heeley claimed referee Paul Graham cost Worcester City a share of the spoils at Vauxhall Motors.
The Blue and Whites felt left-back Tyler Weir was fouled by Paul Mullin in the build-up to Shaun Tuck’s 78th-minute winner.
Heeley said: “That is as blatant a foul as I’ve seen ever and he didn’t give it. He didn’t think it was a foul and that’s very worrying but that’s football and decisions go against you. I can’t ask any more of the lads.
“I feel terribly sorry for them because it was a 0-0 draw all day and it’s frustrating when things go against you. When they’re touch and go you accept it, but it was blatant.
“I can’t do anything about a referee giving a poor decision, the boys have given all they’ve got and that’s all I can ask for.
“No matter what team I pick or what I say to the players, I can’t affect a referee failing to give a blatant foul.”
It was a game of few chances played in atrocious conditions as rain swept across Rivacre Park from start to finish.
Heeley added: “The conditions were very difficult. It was blustery and wasn’t conducive to good football.
“The pitch was very good but the wind was swirling around. People were striking the ball and it was like it had hit a brick wall.
“That said, credit to both sets of players because they gave their all. Other than the goal I can’t remember Vauxhall having another shot on target. We defended really well and restricted them to long range efforts.
“It looked like a 0-0 but unfortunately the game was decided by an awful decision by the referee.”
