WORCESTER City recorded their fourth victory in five matches as they saw off Solihull Moors 3-1 at Aggborough.

Steven Leslie's second-minute strike set the Blue and Whites on their way before Ethan Moore's 11th goal of the campaign doubled the lead eight minutes into the second-half.

Ryan Beswick hit back for the visitors four minutes later but Ebby Nelson-Addy added a third on the break with virtually the last kick of the match.

The visitors had to play the closing stages with 10 men after Stuart Pierpoint was sent off for his second bookable offence.

The deserved success kept Carl Heeley's side above the Skrill North relegation zone and saw them return to winning ways following last Saturday's 1-0 defeat at Vauxhall Motors.

The weather was kinder than on Merseyside but the state of the Aggborough pitch left a lot to be desired and in places resembled a ploughed field.

Despite no plans for an inspection, the game was almost called off an hour before kick-off because referee Sian Massey was not happy with one of the goalmouths.

The ball barely bounced in the south stand penalty area but both teams said they were happy to play.

City stunned the visitors by taking a lead inside the first two minutes. Leslie, starting his first game since December 14, took aim from outside the box and Jasbir Singh parried but the keeper was unable to prevent the ball dropping over the line.

Singh put his team under pressure moments later by slicing a clearance straight to Aaron Brown, who fed Daniel Nti and his shot was turned past the post by the former Kidderminster keeper.

From the corner, Nelson-Addy's deflected drive also needed to be saved by the busy Singh.

City came close again in the 20th minute. Brown set Moore away down the left and his effort was saved by Singh but Brown could not dig the ball out of the mud for the rebound.

Worcester were out of the blocks quickly in the second period with Leslie, who was booked before the break, having a free-kick pushed wide by Singh.

Moments later, the ball broke to Nti and he drew a smart save from the Solihull keeper.

But the hosts finally increased their lead in the 53rd minute. With the ball pinging around the box, Singh produced a fine stop to thwart Brown but the ball fell to Moore and he smashed it into the net.

However, just four minutes later, Solihull, with former City players Rb Elvins, Matt Birley, Jay Denny and Michael Taylor in their ranks, halved the deficit.

Denny slipped the ball to Beswick, who neatly lofted it over the advancing Jose Veiga.

Both sides began to search for further goals as the game opened up in the closing stages.

Alex Dean fired wide before Veiga did well to block from Denny amid a penalty area scramble.

Pierpoint's second yellow card for a foul on sub Kristian Ramsey-Dickson five minutes from time saw Solihull finish the game with 10 men.

The visitors gave Worcester a few nervy moments as they pressed for an equaliser but City made the game safe on the break.

Ramsey-Dickson broke and squared for Nelson-Addy to crash the ball home off the bar to seal the three points.
