CHAIRMAN Mark Serrell has moved to calm fans' fears by saying he is not about to sell Kidderminster Harriers.

Speculation has been rife in recent weeks that Serrell was planning to offload the Aggborough outfit but he has instead re-affirmed his commitment to the Skrill Premier club.

While saying that the board of directors would consider an approach should someone with the right credentials and financial power come forward, he has vowed to stay at the helm.

Serrell also confirmed the board turned down an offer to buy Harriers from former Swindon Town chairman Jed McCrory at the start of January.

“Running Harriers takes a toll on your personal life, business life and health,” said Serrell, who suffered a heart scare in 2011.

“We are custodians of Kidderminster Harriers. It is not my club to buy or sell, or any of the directors. We have a shareholding in the club but it’s a minority.”

He added: “At some point, hopefully somebody will come along who will have more enthusiasm than me, and more money, to drive the club further on.”

Evesham-based businessman McCrory had originally offered to use his extensive contacts to bring in young players from Championship and Premier League clubs to bolster the squad in December.

But Harriers cut ties with him after rumours emerged he was negotiating deals without the club’s blessing.

Serrell explained: “I was introduced to Jed McCrory at a game. We spoke and I then received a text from him saying if we needed any help to contact him.

“It was an opportunity so we met and spoke about the club. At the time it was felt Jed could help us bring in players.”

He continued: “We received a proposal from Jed. The board of directors discussed it and wrote back to him, saying we didn’t believe it was in the best interests of the club.”
