RYAN Lamb says he is ‘excited’ by the journey ahead for Worcester Warriors, after his move to Sixways was confirmed.

As revealed in your Worcester News last Thursday, Lamb has quit Leicester Tigers to link up with his former boss at Gloucester, Dean Ryan.

Lamb, 27, said: “I’ve really enjoyed my time at Leicester but a lack of game time meant that when the opportunity to join Worcester came up, I didn’t want to pass it by.

“I’ve obviously worked with Dean before at Gloucester and after finding out what he’s building at Worcester, I was excited and wanted to be part of that journey and part of that new culture.”

Warriors director of rugby Ryan added: “I am looking forward to renewing my relationship with Ryan.

“When the chance to bring him here came up, I didn’t want to miss the opportunity.”

Lets hope the relationship will be better than it was at Gloucester, where it was at best, stormy.

I would imagine that the apparent strained relationship between Lamb and Ryan while at Gloucester would have been taken into account by both of them before concluding this deal and if either of them thought it would be a problem then this deal would not have happened.

Was it?

I thought that it was Ryan who brought Lamb through the Academy, gave him his chance in the first team, started him in their ECC win, and made him first choice in the two seasons that they finished top of the Prem. Lamb also made it into the Saxons under Ryan.

OK, so it went a bit sour in the last few months before Lamb went to Irish, but they had 2-3 good seasons before that.
