STEFAN Djukic believes Worcester Wolves' strength in depth has been key in their pursuit of the British Basketball League title.

The Serbian forward has become the fifth player from the University Arena side to be named in the competition's team of the week this season.

Djukic secured his debut spot after scoring 30 points in table-topping Wolves' 117-60 demolition of Birmingham Knights, sinking 12 of his 15 efforts.

He joins team-mates Will Creekmore, Zaire Taylor, Alex Owumi and Andreas Schreiber in having gained recognition in the elite quintet this term.

"We have a pretty strong starting five and a deep bench and that's what Championship teams are made of," Djukic said.

"It feels good (to be recognised) but I just need to continue working hard and we need to keep winning, the individual awards aren't so important.

"I appreciate the reward and I'm glad about it but I just want to win games, play well and get the silverware."

Wolves host Newcastle Eagles at the University Arena tomorrow night looking to further tighten their grip on top spot.

Djukic added: "We had one really important game at the beginning of the season against Leicester and we were ready for war before that game so we're going to approach this game the same way.

"We are not feeling convinced that we are too good in this league, we're just humble and work hard. We don't underestimate anyone because in this league, except for the two bottom teams, the others can beat anyone."

Djukic is joined in the latest team of the week by Anthony Downing (Leicester Riders), Brandon McGill (Surrey United), Ralph Bucci (Durham Wildcats) and Gareth Murray (Glasgow Rocks).

Taylor, Creekmore and Owumi were all named on the bench.

Meanwhile, tickets for Worcester's BBL Trophy semi-final home second leg against Sheffield Sharks on Wednesday, March 12, have gone on sale.
