HEREFORD United manager Martin Foyle has stressed the dangers of expecting too much from young players too soon.

The Bulls have increasingly turned to up and coming talent as the result of having little money to play with.

With finances tight at Edgar Street, Foyle is also looking at assembling a youthful squad for next season.

He has already tied Cory Williams and Billy Murphy, two of the club's FA Youth Cup stars, to professional contracts and is hoping they can develop in the first-team squad.

Williams has been used as a substitute three times so far, most recently in place of Chris Sharp in Tuesday's 2-1 home defeat against Macclesfield, while Murphy has yet to feature.

Although impressed with Williams, Foyle is wary of putting too much pressure on the youngsters.

The Hereford boss, whose side host Wrexham in the Skrill Premier today (3pm), said: “Cory came on and gave us a bit of a spark. But I need to breed him into the right environment and, at the moment, it’s the lion’s den.

"Young players are important and if they get off to a sticky start and the crowd are on their backs then you soon lose them.”

Meanwhile, captain Luke Graham has called on every member of the squad to play their part in keeping Hereford in non-league's top-flight.

Only six points separate United from the bottom four going into the Wrexham match.

Graham said: “We need to pick up those points to get us over the line and the quicker we do it, the better for everyone at the club.

“We can’t affect what goes on outside our dressing room and we are all here to the end of the season and we have to dig in.

"Our life for these next nine weeks is Hereford United Football Club and we will get there.”
