WORCESTERSHIRE drew their first pre-season friendly of 2014 on English soil at Somerset.

Following their Abu Dhabi trip, the County returned to colder weather and showers in a three-day clash at Taunton.

Somerset were skittled for 119 in their first innings with Chris Russell taking 4-21 and Jack Shantry 3-47.

The visitors scored 367 all out in reply, as Matt Pardoe hit 91, Alexei Kervezee 88 and Shantry 49 not out, before Somerset finished on 317-3 on the final day.

Meanwhile, Worcestershire’s Moeen Ali has embraced England’s “underdogs” tag at the World Twenty20 in Bangladesh.

The 2010 champions start their campaign in Chittagong today against New Zealand, but expectations are low.

They are ranked eighth in the world by the International Cricket Council.

Moeen, yet to make his Twenty20 debut due to the unofficial status of this week’s practice fixtures, said: “We’re going in to win the tournament as underdogs.

“If we have a good tournament, people will forget it (recent form). We’ve got to be strong and positive. You can’t write anybody off in this tournament.”
