MANAGER Gary Whild will be hoping new signing Aman Verma can have the same impact at Kidderminster Harriers as some of the other players who have stepped up from the lower ranks.

Verma made the move from Calor Southern League Premier Division Corby Town this week and could feature in today's match against Southport at Aggborough (3pm).

The former Leicester City midfielder, who had a brief loan spell with Harriers in 2010 while with the Foxes, scored seven goals for Corby, including in last Saturday's 4-3 home defeat to Stourbridge.

But now he will be aiming to help cement Harriers' place in the Skrill Premier play-offs.

Verma is the latest in a long line of players to have caught the eye of Kidderminster, and manager Whild in particular, in recent times.

As well as high-profile signings such as strikers Jamille Matt and Joe Lolley from Sutton Colffield Town and Littleton respectively, who have since been sold for six-figure sums, midfielders Kyle Storer and Jack Byrne have both plyed their trade lower down the non-league ladder.

Forward Marvin Johnson, centre-half Chey Dunkley and striker Anthony Malbon have also risen through the ranks.

Although Verma has played at a higher level earlier in his career, the 25-year-old has so far failed to an impact in non-league's top-flight.

"He is raring to go and we'll see how things work out," Whild said. "He has been playing in midfield and scoring a few goals at Corby - without doubt, having had him watched and speaking to their manager Tommy Wright, he's their best player.

"He's a lad who can play in a number of different positions - he's fit and hungry.

"He's not new to the Conference or professional football so it will be interesting to see how things develop.

"I am sure if he gets called upon he can contribute and I know he is desperate to get back into first-team football."
