MANAGER Carl Heeley was critical of his own team selection following Worcester City’s 1-0 defeat at Leamington.

The Blue and Whites boss admitted a tweak with the forward line back-fired as the visitors lost for the first time in four games at the New Windmill Ground.

But he also felt his players could have done better in the Skrill North encounter.

He explained: “I slightly changed it with Aaron Brown in a more withdrawn role and the idea was that we could get Aaron Williams to go and support Daniel Nti with the two wide men.

“It didn’t quite work so, hands up, I probably got that one wrong a little bit.

“We swapped it at half-time and tried to change it around and I thought we improved and were more in the game but over the 90 minutes we were off it and that’s a bit disappointing.

“They looked like they wanted it a little bit more than us, certainly in the first-half. We had good situations without really creating too many opportunities.

“We were more on it in the second-half and it took two great saves by their keeper to deny us a point. Their keeper’s pulled off the best two saves of the game without question. But, overall, I was disappointed in us.”

Heeley continued: “It’s not all about the team, I made a selection and tried to do something a little bit different and tried to experiment but it didn’t quite work.

“But irrespective of what 11 players we pick and formation we pick, I’d expect a little bit more from the lads.

“It was a sloppy goal to concede first and foremost and I don’t think we did enough on the front foot in the first hour of the game. We haven’t really performed but we move on.”
