County prepare for further Saeed blow
SAEED Ajmal’s Worcestershire return could be further curtailed because of Pakistan’s hastily-arranged tour of Sri Lanka.
The two-Test and three one-day match series in August was finalised on the sidelines of an International Cricket Council meeting in Dubai last week.
Saeed was due to miss six weeks in July and August due to Caribbean Premier League duty but this new tour could further hamper his County commitments.
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief operating officer Subhan Ahmed said: “We are still discussing how much time he (Saeed) can be away as we now have a scheduled series in Sri Lanka.”
The off-spinner, 36, should have been at New Road in time to figure in this week’s LV= County Championship Division Two clash with Kent.
Visa red tape delayed his arrival but Worcestershire chief executive David Leatherdale is optimistic Saeed will line up against Derbyshire on Sunday, April 27.
New Zealand paceman Mitchell McClenaghan was signed to replace Saeed during the CPL but that deal could now be extended.
