DIRECTOR of basketball Paul James wants to keep most of his players at Worcester Wolves next season.

It has been a successful campaign for the University Arena outfit, winning the BBL Trophy and chasing runners-up spot in the league with the play-offs to come.

But the focus has already switched to the 2014-15 season with James looking to agree deals with players soon.

Will Creekmore, captain Alex Owumi and Zaire Taylor are expected be high on his list of personnel to retain along with brothers Jamal and Kai Williams.

James does not want a raft of players coming and going, as has happened in the past.

“I’ve had informal chats with players and the key thing is to sit down with the owner Roger Clarke and president Mick Donovan to review the season,” he said.

“We will look at where we were strong and weak, what we need to do to be better and who we need to bring back or potentially replace with a higher quality of player.

“That’s going to happen in the next week or so and talks with players will certainly start before the season’s out.

“In my mind, I know exactly who we need to keep if we can get the deals done.

“One of the key things to success is to have continuity because you know it works.

“If we can keep more of the players together and change one or two, we are going to be stronger again but that’s yet to be seen.

“We’ll look at what the players are after and what we can actually afford as a club.

“The last thing we want is to be in a rebuilding situation but sometimes those things can’t be helped. I always keep an open mind at this time of year.”

Wolves visit Surrey United for their final Championship match of the league season tonight (7pm).
