HEREFORD United goalkeeper Daniel Lloyd-Weston says the players will be fighting for the fans as much as their own careers in today's do-or-die match at Aldershot (5.30pm).

The Bulls must win at the Recreation Ground and hope Chester lose to Salisbury in order to avoid relegation from the Skrill Premier.

Newly-crowned player-of-the-season Weston knows what survival would mean to the club's long-suffering supporters but is also aware of its importance to his team-mates livelihoods.

The bleak financial situation at Edgar Street has meant players have not been paid at times during the campaign, although chairman David Keyte has said their contracts will be honoured.

Lloyd-Weston said: “Every game is nerve-wracking because you are fighting for a city, not just a

football club,” he said.

“There are good people in this city, they are die-hard fans. You know you are fighting for them as well as your own career.

“We will treat the Aldershot match like any other game and I have been in the gym every day with Rob

Purdie working hard to be ready for the game.”

The 22-year-old scooped the club's top player prize after a season that has seen him make the number one jersey his own.

His efforts since arriving at the club last summer have also earned the former Port Vale player an England 'C' call-up.

Lloyd-Weston said: “My aim was to get into Hereford’s team but that did not happen at the start of the season.

“Rhys Evans was in the team and playing well. I was working really hard off the pitch and I owe a big

thanks to Rob Purdie.”

Lloyd-Weston made his England 'C' debut in Jordan earlier in the season and is hoping to be involved in three more matches at the end of May.

"I have received an e-mail to see if I am available. You don’t turn down England so, hopefully, I will

get selected," he said.
