James hails "fabulous" Wolves after Lions victory

DIRECTOR of basketball Paul James felt his Worcester Wolves side were "fabulous" in taking a step closer to another major final.

The British Basketball League Trophy champions booked their place in the semi-finals of the play-offs with a 178-166 aggregate victory over London Lions.

Now they are potentially 80 minutes away from the final at Wembley Arena next month.

James said: "I'm delighted to be through. It's the first time that the club's got through to a BBL play-off semi-final in its history. Over the two legs, we were the best team.

"Yes, there's a little bit of disappointment that we didn't win at home, we had enough opportunities too, but the bigger picture is we've got through to the semi-final and I think people will take that.

"As much as I said at the start that we wanted to put on a performance for our home fans, I think it's difficult at times to do that knowing that you've got such a big cushion.

"Once they got back and had a six-point lead in the second game, we needed to switch on. It's hard as a coach to keep players mentally focused all the time for that.

"Overall, we did a fabulous job over the two games and we are delighted to be in the semi-finals."
