WARRIORS lock Dean Schofield has today been nominated for the prestigious Aviva Community Player of the Season award.

The former England forward has been at the centre of the club’s community work this season after he pioneered the SIFA Fireside project, where players serve breakfast to homeless people in Birmingham.

Once a fortnight a group of Warriors players buy, cook and serve a full English breakfast to around 120 people at the SIFA Fireside centre.

Six players from five different top-flight clubs are in line for the award which will be presented at the Aviva Premiership Rugby awards on May 15 at the London Hilton, Park Lane.

They have made the shortlist after making an exceptional contribution to a number of local and national projects with all six going above and beyond the call of duty in supporting these causes.

Warriors' community foundation manager Carol Hart said: “We place a big emphasis on our work with the community and have projects running right across the West Midlands.

“The SIFA Fireside project has been a huge success this season and Dean has been at the forefront of that effort. I’m delighted he has been nominated for this award.”

Premiership Rugby's community and CSR director Wayne Morris said: “Premiership Rugby's community work is lucky to be supported by over 600 professional players across our clubs, who look to enthuse and inspire communities while acting as fantastic role models to young local people.

“From that huge group, these six have emerged following exceptional seasons off the field to make it on to this shortlist."

Shortlist: Dean Schofield (Worcester Warriors), Jamie George (Saracens), Matt Gilbert (Bath), Dylan Hartley and Dom Waldouck (both Northampton Saints), Tane Tu'ipulotu (Newcastle Falcons).
