Reid and Styche to boost Harriers

MANAGER Gary Whild believes new signings Craig Reid and Reece Styche can make the difference between success and failure for Kidderminster Harriers next season.

Harriers finished seventh in the Skrill Premier, missing out on the play-offs and potential promotion to the Football League.

Whild, having started the season as assistant to Steve Burr, took over from Andy Thorn with 13 games to go and reckons it was his team's firepower that let them down.

He has moved quickly to rectify the situation with Reid and Styche agreeing two-year deals at Aggborough.

Both have a proven track record in non-league's top-flight with Reid bagging 62 goals in 106 games for Newport County and Styche 37 times in 77 starts for Forest Green Rovers.

Allied with Michael Gash, Anthony Malbon and Nathan Blissett, Harriers should carry a more potent threat during the 2014-15 campaign.

Whild said: “Anybody will tell you that it’s that end of the pitch that makes the difference.

“If we are very critical of the 13 games when I came back, we had one defeat but probably too many draws when two or three of them should have been wins.

“If you look at the likes of Reece and Craig, I am sure they would have played a part and nicked a goal to help us turn those draws into wins.”

Reid is also aiming to find his scoring touch after joining as a free agent following his departure from Stevenage, who were relegated from League One.

"I did speak to a couple of other managers but I just didn't get the feeling that I got here," said Reid.

"It is a lure to come to a club that has ambitions of getting into the League and I want to be part of that.

"I want to be playing week in, week out and scoring goals again and being up at the top end of the league rather than at the bottom."
