ONE of the influential signings who helped turn Worcester City's 2013-14 season around has penned a new one-year deal with the Conference North club.

Experienced centre-half Wayne Thomas, who turned 35 last Saturday, has agreed to extend his stay at Aggborough.

The Gloucester-born defender played more than 450 Football League games for the likes of Torquay United, Burnley, Stoke City and Southampton.

Thomas joined City in late February and made an immediate impact at the back as Carl Heeley's side moved up the table.

Manager Heeley said: "We are delighted that Wayne is rejoining us next season.

"He is not only a firm favourite with the supporters but is instrumental within the dressing room and has a massive influence on the younger players.

"He was very keen to sign for us and we were very keen to have him back.

"We hope to announce one or two more players in the next week, all of whom will improve our squad."
