WAYNE Thomas believes Worcester City can be a force in Skrill North next season after committing his future to the club.

The veteran Football League centre-half, who made 11 appearances for the Blue and Whites this season after joining in February, has agreed a new deal to stay at Aggborough for the 2014-15 season.

He has become the fifth player to put pen to paper for Carl Heeley's side, following on from Graham Hutchison, player-of-the-year George Williams, captain Ellis Deeney and Tyler Weir.

Thomas says the "professional" approach of the club was a major factor in his decision to extend his stay.

He also reckons there is plenty of potential for the team to build on their 15th-placed finish in Skrill North and aim for better things.

"From what I seen and experienced at Worcester they are trying to do things professionally and that was a big draw for me," Thomas said.

"You have to aim for at least trying to break into the top half of the table and why can't we do that or reach the play-offs?

"If you don't aim to get out of the league, you are wasting your time.

"From our form at the end of the season, it's certainly within our grasp if we can get get a few more faces in and keep the vast majority of the squad together."

Thomas brought a wealth of experience to the team, having played more than 450 games for Torquay United, Burnley, Stoke City and Southampton.

After dropping out of full-time football when he left Tamworth, Thomas feels he has been given a new lease of life at Worcester.

The defender, who is also working towards his UEFA 'A' License coaching qualification, said: "It was a shock to the system when I left Tamworth, through circumstances out of my control, and I thought maybe it was time to knock it on the head.

"I knew physically and mentally I could still do it but a lot of things were stacked against me.

"I contemplated retirement but then Carl got in touch. When a manager wants you at a club it makes decisions much easier and it was an easy decision to come back."

He continued: "From the short spell I was there at the end of the season I had a good time and enjoyed me football again.

"They have got a great set of lads who want to do well and be successful. They are trying to do things in the right way.

"It was making sure everything was right with my family and then we were able to come to an agreement."
