CHAIRMAN Ken Rae has played down fears over Kidderminster Harriers’ finances after benefactors Ernie and Kath Lane resigned as directors.

The pair have invested an estimated £200,000 into the club and played a key role in helping Harriers recover from their financial woes in 2011.

They paid the £60,000 tax bill owed to Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs and also provided funds to buy forwards Ryan Rowe, Anthony Malbon and Marvin Johnson.

However, they have decided to quit because of concerns over the management of the Conference Premier club’s finances during the last seven months.

But Rae, who was due to discuss the issue at a board meeting this week, insists there is nothing to worry about.

“We are like a lot of clubs in the summer,” he said. “We’ve got one or two issues but there are no serious problems.

“We’ve obviously got a wage bill to pay but otherwise we are okay.

“I can confirm that Ernie and Kath Lane have tendered their resignations.”

The 2013-14 campaign was one of the most financially successful in Harriers’ history following their lucrative run to the FA Cup fourth round, when they lost 1-0 to Premier League Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

The sale of striker Joe Lolley to Championship side Huddersfield Town in January also generated around £250,000, although the Terriers have two more payments to make.

However, Kidderminster had to pay off manager Steve Burr, as well as his successor Andy Thorn and assistant Craig Knight.

Manager Gary Whild is operating on a smaller budget than last season but has still been able to sign experienced Conference Premier strikers Craig Reid and Reece Styche, as well as right-back Jared Hodgkiss.

Harriers’ hopes of adding Birmingham City left-back Amari’i Bell, who enjoyed a loan spell at Aggborough at the end of last season, have been dashed after he joined League Two Mansfield Town on loan until January.
