EVESHAM’S Cameron Brodie swam the race of his life in the Commonwealth Games 200-metre butterfly final.
The 21-year-old was just edged out of the medals for Scotland as South Africa’s Chad Le Clos landed the gold.
Fourth-placed Brodie, who touched in 1.56.59 to miss a medal by 0.16, said: “That is the best swim I’ve ever done. I should be happy, but fourth sucks.
“It is the first time I have ever finished fourth. I’ve heard hundreds of athletes say fourth is the worst. I have never believed it, but it really is.
“In Delhi four years ago when Michael (Jamieson) got silver, anyone finishing in the top five was a big deal.
“Now if you don’t win gold you’re not a big deal. I will put on a smile and say how pleased I am, but there will be some tears.’’
Meanwhile, Kidderminster’s Amy Smith was eighth in the 50m freestyle.
University of Worcester student Fiona Clarke, 19, was eighth in the para-sport long jump final.
