CHAIRMAN Andy Lonsdale says there are no plans to move Hereford United away from Edgar Street.

Fears have been rife that developing both ends of the famous ground was the aim when Tommy Agombar took over the club from David Keyte, spelling the end for the Bulls’ 90-year-old headquarters.

Within days of Agombar arriving, he requested the leases be transferred from Herefordshire Council to a company under his ownership.

But that didn’t happen and Agombar has since been forced to stand down after failing the Football Association’s test for owners and directors.

According to Lonsdale, any development of the Merton Meadow and Blackfriars ends would be two years away and would not include relocating the club.

Following last week’s rejection by creditors of a proposed Company Voluntary Agreement, Lonsdale also said the club would not be wound-up on September 1 because of new investment, as of yet undisclosed.

“Football will stay at Edgar Street forever, definitely as long as we are in control and for the future, as per the leases,” he said.

Director John Edwards added: “Our first priority was and is the survival of this football club as a football club.”

On the pitch, Hereford travel to Arlesey Town in the Southern League Premier Division today (3pm) seeking to build on their first victory of the season, a 1-0 win over Banbury United last Tuesday.

Meanwhile, United’s supporters’ team, managed by John Layton, are in action at Hinton FC tomorrow (2pm).

They take on a Mayor’s XI to be managed by former Bulls’ chairman and director of football Graham Turner.

Today’s planned match for the supporters’ side at Royston Town has been postponed because the hosts have been unable to raise a team.

It is hoped the fixture can be rearranged for later in the season but no date has yet been set.
