DIRECTOR of rugby Dean Ryan says his Worcester Warriors players must work hard to match the ‘fight and emotion’ of Moseley in this afternoon’s derby at Sixways.

Warriors will be aiming to seal their first win in this term’s Greene King IPA Championship after Sunday’s last-gasp 23-19 defeat at Bristol.

Mike Williams bagged Warriors' only try against Bristol at Ashton Gate, with Ignacio Mieres kicking four penalties and a conversion.

“It’s our first home game of the Championship and we want to get off to a good start and we need to get a win,” said Ryan.

“We are pretty fired up and we want to kick on. We are desperate to get going, get a win and start the momentum going.

“We have to grow our own independent decision making and be more flexible on the field and this Championship season is an opportunity for us to develop those skills.”

Ryan says Moseley, under the direction of coach Kevin Maggs, will be a tough nut to crack.

Moseley fought back in their opening match to claim a 22-22 draw against Jersey.

Ryan said: “Any team that is run by Kevin Maggs will know how to scrap and to fight and there will difficult times for us. How we behave it that difficult time will determine whether we get out of it.

“For Kevin Maggs, this week would have been reasonably easy. We have to work really hard to be in an equal space and then let some of the potential we have got be the difference between the two sides.”

Ryan added: “Moseley have done well to hang on to their identity and fought well last weekend.

“The club will see this as an opportunity to take a perceived bigger scalp so we have to work really well to match their fight and emotion.”
