KING’S School Worcester were clear winners at Worcester Rowing Club’s small boats head race on the River Severn.

Their pupils recorded 14 victories followed by Stourport Boat Club with nine.

There were 220 crews on the water, spilt over two divisions, racing along the club’s 4,500-metre course.

Crews from Royal Grammar School Worcester, the University of Worcester, Bewdley and Hereford attended.

There was also a Devon group from Shiplake College, Bideford. The fastest crew was the King’s School junior 18 four of Matthew Bladen, Theo Beever, Tom Harrison and George Farmiloe in 14 minutes 33 seconds.

For the females, the King’s School junior 18 four of Ella Armstrong, Frances Thomas, Izzy Swinson-Davis and Alex Styles were quickest in 16.10.

Stourport won Worcester’s only elite event with Luke Grainger taking the single sculls and they also took four of the eight masters events.

Worcester were successful too, firstly through the four of Fay Sheppard, Sarah Reed, Anna Singleton and Alice Wickham, coxed by Georgii Walklet.

The men’s four of Oli Pool, Will Slimming, Ed Restall and Tim Pawsey were coxed to victory by Ruth Brown.

Worcester’s senior pairs of Shaun Fisher and Chris Beech also triumphed.

Junior 18 sculler Izzy Friedlander continued her hot streak in the singles.

RGS pupils Joseph Crump and Alistair Pryke secured a junior 18 double sculls win.
