HEREFORD United manager Jon Taylor has warned his players not to get carried away with their superb 5-1 victory at Banbury United.

The Bulls romped to their first win in four matches with the emphatic result at the Southern League Premier Division basement boys on Tuesday evening.

Sam Bobes-Gilroy, Josh Hawker, Steve Vetier, Bilal Yafai and Obi Onyeike were all on target after Hereford had conceded inside the first minute, the latter two goals were scored in stoppage time at the end of the game.

United will now be aiming to build on that victory when they visit Division One South and West outfit Totton in the FA Trophy first qualifying round tomorrow (3pm), the earliest stage they have ever entered the competition.

Taylor said: “It wasn’t a great start and I wondered whether it was going to be one of those nights.

“But I thought we played exceptionally well and took our chances well — there were some well-worked goals.

“In the first- half, I wasn’t all that happy with us defensively but we sorted that out in the second-half and it was a good solid performance. On the counter-attack, we looked very dangerous.”

Totton, who needed a replay to see off Cinderford Town in the previous round, drew 1-1 at home to Larkhall Athletic on Tuesday after losing 4-0 at Merthyr Town last Saturday.
