WORCESTER City manager Carl Heeley says he has some tough calls to make over team selection for the FA Cup date with Coventry City.

City travel to the Ricoh Arena on Sunday for a first round proper tie that will be shown on the BBC as part of a highlights package.

They head into the lucrative fixture on the back of Saturday’s 2-2 league draw at Leamington and Heeley admits he has plenty of food for thought.

Wayne Thomas, Sean Geddes and Nick Wright were all left out against the Brakes, while Mike Symons returned from injury to come off the bench and grab the equaliser.

Heeley said: “We’ve got a good squad of players and it’s my job to pick a team and it’s their job to try to influence me.

“It’s going to be tough and there’s going to be some big calls and there are going to be one or two disappointed but that’s the way it is.

“We can only pick 18 players in the squad so we’ll go with what we feel will give us the best opportunity of trying to spring a surprise.”

He added: “It’s about momentum.

“We’re doing well, we’ve got some good players, the squad is full of confidence and I want them to thrive on this week and do themselves justice on Sunday because they’ve earned it.”

Having Symons back in contention is a major boost for City and, with the exception of keeper Jose Veiga, who is still recovering from a knee injury, Heeley expects to have a fit squad to choose from against the Sky Blues.

“Symmo is a big player for us and we could have involved him last week but we took a gamble that we’d have enough to get through the tie against Greenwich and give him another week’s training.

“It’s worked for us because he’s different to the other players we’ve got. When the ball’s in the box he’s a big threat and he’s got a goal for us, which is brilliant.”

Preparing for such a prestigious match is not a usual scenario for Worcester and Heeley isn’t about to make wholesale alterations to their routine.

The Blue and Whites boss said: “We’ll probably have an extra training session this week on Saturday morning and we may keep them together for the day.

“But, that aside, it’s business as usual.”
