WINGER Josh Drauniniu says it was a special moment pulling on the famous Barbarians jersey.

The Worcester Warriors man had a major impact in the match, scoring two tries to lead the Baa-Baas to a 31-15 success over the Combined Services at Bath.

Drauniniu, who previously played for the Combined Services when serving for the Navy, scored twice in nine second-half minutes to decide the contest.

He admits it was a strange evening playing against old colleagues.

“It was very weird,” said Drauniniu, 29. “I knew almost everyone in the Combined Services team. I actually wondered for a second whether I should be going to the other changing room.

“But it was a privilege and honour to represent the Baa-Baas, especially on Remembrance Day, and the special occasion was marked by a great game.”

The Warriors wing and Mat Gilbert both represented the Baa-Baas.

Ex-Welsh internationals Nigel Davies and Phil Davies coached them and a half-time talk helped the Baa-Baas prevail in the second period.

Drauniniu explained: “The first half was a bit scrappy. We kept losing the ball in the wet conditions and couldn’t play the kind of rugby the Barbarians are known for.

“But, for the second half, we talked about keeping the ball and were able to play it out wide.”

The Baa-Baas took an early lead through Cardiff flanker Jon Edwards before Peceli Nacamavuto scored an interception try.

James Dixon nudged the Services further ahead with a penalty in the second-half but Drauniniu levelled with a try.

The Warriors man then intercepted to run the length of the field and put the Baa-Baas back in front.

Luke Robinson’s try briefly raised the Services’ hopes of a fifth win in 15 meetings since the fixture began in 1997.

But late tries from Charlie Walker-Blair and replacement Alan Brown secured victory for the famous invitational side.

Drauniniu added: “I loved my experience and being able to put on the Barbarians shirt was a special moment.

“It was also great to get some game-time and a couple of tries under my belt.”
