DROITWICH lost 14-13 to relegation rivals Old Coventrians in a tough Midlands Two West (South) game.

Spa started the brighter, scoring two early tries thanks to club veteran Nicholas Godfrey and a fantastic individual score from winger Daniel Wilkinson.

Unfortunately Droitwich were penalised too many times and paid the price with the hosts scoring two penalties in reply during the first-half.

After the interval Spa were under pressure from the off and, after more refereeing decisions went against them, they soon found themselves a score behind as Old Coventrians edged ahead with a try in the corner.

Bobby Scott-Walker replied with a penalty to put Spa ahead by two points with 10 minutes remaining.

However, with more of the referee's' decisions going against them, the Spa side from the referee who seemed intimidated by the home side's support were unable to stop Old Coventrians slotting a penalty kick to go one point ahead.

Spa tried to rally and secure the win but were never allowed any fluidity as the referee kept stopping playdue to decisions consistently going against them.

After the game, captain James Shewelly said: “Some games you get beaten and some games you lose and this was definitely an unfortunate loss.”

Droitwich face a tough test in their next game when they entertain table-toppers Old Laurentians on Saturday.
