STOURPORT finally secured their first three points of the season in the England women’s Investec Conference West with a 2-1 home win against Oxford Hawks.
Oxford dominated the opening exchanges and missed a chance to take the lead when their forward rounded Sophie Wood only to push the ball wide of the open goal.
The hosts did however open the scoring in the 34th minute when Takara Haines converted a short corner.
This provoked a reaction from Stourport, who won a corner of their own and Rene Johnson improvised superbly to knock the rebound into the Oxford goal to equalise.
Hawks dominated possession at the start of the second-half but the visitors found Stourport keeper Wood in imperious form, making numerous saves to keep her side in the game.
After weathering the storm while captain Katie Miller was temporarily suspended for five minutes, the hosts scored a second.
From a breakaway, Leanne Bennett’s cross found Lora Symonds who turned and finished clinically with a reverse stick effort with just three minutes remaining.
