BROMSGROVE put in a great National Three Midlands performance to secure an excellent 28-24 win at home to Peterborough Lions.

The visitors started as favourites on the back of a three-match winning streak as opposed to the home side’s three straight losses.

This looked like an accurate assessment as the big Lions pack took an early strangle - hold, and within five min - utes they put in a huge drive from a line-out, with flanker Chris Humphrey peeling off to score in the corner. Will Carrington converted.

However, Bromsgrove came back strongly, with veteran backs Jon Critchlow and James Lloyd Jones running good lines and Rich Mahoney having a good game at fly- half.

It took Bromsgrove only five minutes to respond with a Critchlow penalty. Soon af - ter, captain Paul Norris was forced off with an injury, with the rampaging Phil Hor - ton taking over as skipper.

From a line-out Broms - grove got their first try with an emphatic catch and drive, with the dynamic Chris Mor - gan touching down. Critch - low converted.

Soon afterwards Broms - grove were pounding the visitors’ line again and, when Peterborough spilled a pass in the in-goal area, Matt Edgar pounced to score for a 15-7 interval lead.

Shortly after half-time Bromsgrove extended their lead when Mahoney kicked a penalty. Carrington replied with three points for the visi - tors, but winger Tom Hunt touched down for Broms - grove, with Critchlow con - verting.

The Lions came back strongly in the last 15 min - utes and got their first re - ward when winger Vernon Horne was on the end of a good handling movement to score, with Carrington con - verting.

Five minutes from time Critchlow despatched a pen - alty, but Peterborough gained some consolation by earning a losing bonus point when Arturo Balcunius scored a converted try.
