A DISGRUNTLED Worcester City fan has sounded a warning to other supporters after Scunthorpe United refused to sell him tickets for Sunday’s FA Cup clash.

Dave Higgins bought seats in the family stand for the second-round tie for himself and 10-year-old son Leon through the League One club’s website.

But, after initially being sold them, the Blue and Whites fan was told he couldn’t have them because he had a Worcester postcode.

City’s allocation of 2,200 sold out last month and Scunthorpe said they wouldn’t be making any more available for the all-ticket match.

Higgins, 50, said: “I got an e-mail confirming the tickets and that they had taken the money but I had a call saying we wouldn’t be able to have the tickets because the postal address was Worcester.

“We were at the Coventry game and I promised my son I would take him to the next round.

“I know about football crowds but I have got a 10-year-old and I have never come across a situation like this. The magic of the FA Cup has been taken away.”

However, Scunthorpe United general manager David Beeby said the Iron had done all they could to accommodate Worcester fans and urged them not to travel without tickets.

He said: “We have provided as many tickets as we can to Worcester in terms of complying with what has been agreed with our safety advisory group for away fans.

“Tickets are available online but it clearly says that they are for home fans only.

“We had one or two Worcester fans who have purchased tickets and we have got in touch with them and refunded the money and explained we are not in a position to sell them in order to comply with our safety certificate.

“We realise it’s a big game for them but we strongly advise supporters not to travel without tickets or to buy them in the home sections of the ground for safety reasons.

“I know there’s no history of trouble between the clubs but football is a passionate game and we have to maintain the segregation.”
