CARL Heeley says Worcester City have to believe they can beat League One outfit Scunthorpe United in tomorrow’s FA Cup showdown (2pm).

The Blue and Whites sparked scenes of euphoria at the Ricoh Arena with a deserved 2-1 victory over 1987 winners Coventry City in the first round.

They are determined to repeat the feat against a side 60 places above them in the football pyramid.

Having come through five matches to reach this stage, including a replay against Leamington, just 90 minutes stand between City and the chance to rub shoulders with Premier League teams in the third round.

They will again be roared on by a huge travelling support with Worcester’s 2,200 allocation selling out inside a week.

City manager Heeley said: “The players enjoyed their day at Coventry and they are hungry for more of them.

“We have got an opportunity for another great day tomorrow and dream of causing another shock.

“We are in the second round of the greatest competition in the world so we haven’t got to talk about motivation.

“We want to play the likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea.

“Non-league teams have done it in the past and we want to do it. But we have got to overcome Scunthorpe to do that.”

He continued: “We are 13 games unbeaten. I have heard that Coventry weren’t prepared correctly but on the day, regardless of how well they were prepared, we were better than them and I want to give the credit to my players for that.

“My 11 players wanted it more than them.

“We have to work at the psychological side to instil the belief that they can go and replicate that against Scunthorpe.

“If you look at the league, it suggests there is a gap in ability and we have to try to bridge that with desire and wanting it more.”

City will train at the home of Conference North rivals North Ferriby United today before being guests at Hull City’s Premier League match against West Brom.

It was a routine employed prior to the Coventry match when they took in the Championship clash between Birmingham City and Cardiff.

“It worked for us last time and we will try to replicate that,” Heeley said. “We keep the lads together for the afternoon and they enjoy each other’s company.”

Keeper Nathan Vaughan (neck) is expected to be fit after being left out of Monday’s 3-0 Vanarama Conference North win at Hyde.

Right-back George Williams, centre-half Graham Hutchison and striker Daniel Nti were also rested but are fit to play.

Relegation-threatened Scunthorpe, 2-0 winners at Forest Green in the previous round, won 2-1 at Barnsley last Saturday.

But the Iron have not triumphed at Glanford Park since beating Coventry 2-1 on September 16.

However, they have lost just one of seven matches since former Manchester United striker Mark Robins took over as manager.
