GRAHAM Hutchison says Worcester City's huge support inspired the players to their latest heroics at Scunthorpe United.

City hit back from a goal behind at Glanford Park to earn a lucrative replay and a place in the third-round draw.

They were roared on by more than 2,200 fans, who were housed behind the goal where Daniel Nti scored his second-half equaliser, and they created a cauldron-like atmosphere.

There was even a pitch invasion at the final whistle as fans and players alike celebrated a draw that, in its way, is every bit as impressive as the 2-1 victory over 1987 winners Coventry in the previous round.

Central defender Hutchison admitted manager Carl Heeley read the riot act to the team at half-time and reckons that, together with the crowd, provided the catalyst for another memorable City display.

He said: "We got a rollicking at half-time, which we fully deserved, and came out and more than matched them in the second-half and were unlucky not to get more.

"The staff gave us a rollicking, then we came out and got the early goal and that got the crowd behind us.

"The ground is so tight and compact. We had less fans than we had at Coventry but it seemed like we had more and when they get behind you it makes you go to a gear you didn't think you had."

He continued: "It shows how far we have come this season. This time last year we were scrapping around at the bottom of the table and now we've come away to a League One team and we are disappointed to be 1-0 down at half-time.

"Daniel always seems to get himself in the right place at the right time and scored a goal that set us up for the second-half to try to go on and get the win."

Hutchison is now relishing next week's replay and believes City, who have only lost once at their temporary home in 2014, more than deserve a second bite of the cherry.

The former Birmingham City player, who was an immovable force alongside Wayne Thomas at the heart of Worcester's defence, said: "I think we should have won it but maybe I'm being a bit biased.

"They probably won the first-half and we won the second-half, a draw was a fair result and we'll take them back to Aggborough.

"It's a bit of a fortress for us, we love playing there and hopefully we can get the job done.

"No matter who we get, whether it be a Conference team or Premier League side, we will go into it with the same mindset of winning that game."
