WARRIORS’ Fijian-born flyer Josh Drauniniu has propelled himself back into the first-team reckoning with an eye-catching performance for the club’s second string.

The 29-year-old has not yet made an appearance for Warriors in this season’s Greene King IPA Championship campaign.

But the former ex-Exeter and London Welsh winger starred for Worcester Cavaliers in Monday’s 59-11 thrashing of Newcastle Falcons in the Aviva A-League.

Drauniniu scored a brace of tries in a man-of-the-match display as Cavaliers secured a place in the semi-finals.

“Josh was in the form of his life on Monday and we’re not pretending that didn’t happen because it did,” said Warriors’ director of rugby Dean Ryan.

“It’s thrown a big marker out and it’s going to put some pressure on the two lads in the first team.

“I don’t have any issues with him [(Drauniniu)] at all. It’s a bit late for jumping around about it but it was a pretty impressive performance from Josh.”

Drauniniu joined from London Welsh in 2011 and enjoyed a fantastic start to life at Sixways as he scored five tries in his first six matches.

He is one of Warriors’ most potent try-scoring threats and was the club’s joint top-scorer during the 2012-13 campaign.

Drauniniu made his 50th appearance for the club against former side Exeter in April 2014 and by the end of last term had racked up 24 tries from 53 games.

The winger came on as a replacement in Warriors’ British and Irish Cup win at Moseley in October and represented the Barbarians last month.

But he has slipped down the order of merit at Sixways since the summer arrival of Tom Biggs and Sam Smith.

Ryan added: “Josh had injury problems and has fallen down the pecking order a little bit because some of the other aspects of his game are not as good as we would like and he would be the first to admit that. “He’s back to full fitness and form. If you play like that, you will be given a chance in the first team. If you can play like that again, you will probably stay in the team.”
