STRIKER Mike Symons is determined to show a more ruthless streak in front of goal to help Worcester City climb the Vanarama Conference North table.

The 28-year-old made a welcome return to form in last Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Hednesford Town, scoring his fifth goal of the season.

He also put in another hard-working performance in the 1-0 victory over Oxford City at Aggborough on Tuesday.

For a player who scored 33 goals in two seasons during his first spell with the club, Symons admits his current return needs to improve.

But he feels it isn’t for the lack of chances and is ready to add to his tally, starting at North Ferriby United today (3pm).

Symons said: “Personally, I look back and think what could I have done better and, as a striker, you get judged on your goals so it was a relief to score against Hednesford.

“Having gone a few games without scoring, it was nice to get a goal but I could have scored another one too.

“Looking back on games this year, I could be in double figures. When I get into positions, I need to make sure I am more ruthless.

“I would like to score more goals and hopefully I can contribute some more over the next few games.”

Symons, the club’s third top scorer behind Sean Geddes and Daniel Nti, has started 26 games this season and remains an integral part of Carl Heeley’s team.

Following the Hednesford draw and Oxford victory, he is now looking to push Worcester up the league.

He said: “A point against Hednesford was good but we could have gone on to win it and we took that positive result into Tuesday night.

“Ideally, we were aiming for all six points from the two games but we managed to get four.

“Hopefully, we can take that form into our next few fixtures and create more chances.”
