WORCESTER City will be looking to close the gap on their Conference North play-off rivals when they take on Stockport County at Aggborough tomorrow (3pm).

The Blue and Whites are seven points adrift of the top five but very much in the mix with 15 games of the campaign still to go, 10 of which are at home.

Victory tomorrow would rein in the Hatters, who are five points better off than City but having played three more games.

With Solihull Moors, another team with play-off aspirations, visiting Aggborough on Tuesday, Worcester are aware of the importance of the current games.

Manager Carl Heeley said: “We have had a couple of positive results and we want to try to build on that.

“If we can get a positive result and close the gap on them, we have got three games in hand so it’s a big opportunity for us.

“It’s going to be a big ask but if we could get two positive results out of the next two games that would put a different perspective on our aspirations.”

He added: “If we can replicate the home form we have shown in general it’s a positive that we have got 10 out 15 matches at home.

“But we just take one at a time, there are a lot of difficult games and we will see where it takes us at the end of the season.”

Centre-half Wayne Thomas is available again following a two-match suspension and former Stourbridge right-back Kyle Haynes returns after being cup tied for Tuesday’s Worcestershire FA Senior Cup semi-final against Redditch United, which City won 5-4 on penalties.

Aaron Brown is also expected to be fit after hurting his ankle in last Saturday’s 2-0 league victory at Colwyn Bay and could partner Thomas in the middle of defence.

However, Jacob Rowe and Shabir Khan played against Redditch, keeping a clean sheet, and will be champing at the bit to keep their places.

Academy midfielder Dean Waldron could also be in the frame after impressing in mid-week.

Striker Daniel Nti hobbled off at the Valley Stadium with a leg injury and remains doubtful, as does midfielder Connor Gater, who has a groin strain.

Stockport, who have former City striker Danny Glover in their ranks, are aiming to bounce back from Wednesday’s surprise 2-0 defeat at struggling Bradford Park Avenue.

Tomorrow’s match may attract a large crowd and will be segregated with Stockport fans being housed in section ‘N’ of the east stand and in half of the south stand.
