WHEN Worcester City moved to Aggborough more than 18 months ago, there were genuine fears that crowd numbers would plummet.

As it turned out, those concerns were unfounded, even though the average attendances at Kidderminster Harriers are below that of their final seasons at St George’s Lane.

For a club playing outside of their home city, Worcester can still lay claim to competitive gates in Conference North.

In the FA Cup, those figures increased ten-fold with the second round replay against Scunthorpe United a sell-out at Aggborough.

At times, fans have watched some of the most entertaining football from a City team in a long while, even if that wasn’t the case in Tuesday’s 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Solihull Moors.

But, according to manager Carl Heeley, some supporters have forgotten what has been achieved this season.

Following the midweek loss, the City boss expressed his frustration at what he perceived to be unfair remarks directed towards his players.

He explained: “The disappointing thing for me is some of the shouts from the crowd. They can’t ask for much more this season, but we have an off performance and some of the shouts are beyond belief.

“They are getting on players’ backs. I know they’re frustrated but what do they want? We couldn’t have delivered much more, it’s exceeded everybody’s expectations this season but we’ve turned in a poor performance and some of the shouts I hear are staggering.

“We’ve had some good times this season and the times we’ve had performances like that you can count on one hand.

“It’s disappointing to hear criticism being aimed at individuals. The amount of times I’ve heard people have a pop at Ellis Deeney is absolutely beyond belief.

“The lad’s been outstanding this season.”
