WORCESTER City have bolstered their squad by bringing back former captain Rob Elvins and Jay Denny from Solihull Moors.

Centre-half Elvins, who played more than 150 times for City in four seasons before leaving in May 2013, was on the Blue and Whites’ radar for a summer switch but the Moors have agreed to let him move early.

Worcester have also pounced for Denny, a defensive midfielder, after he was released by City’s Conference North rivals just days after they lost 4-1 to Carl Heeley’s team.

Both have signed until the end of the season with a view to staying for next term and are in line to make their debuts against Barrow at Aggborough today (3pm).

With injuries and suspension having taken their toll on the team, the pair are set to give City a timely boost.

Elvins moved to Solihull in the summer of 2013, one of a number of players to leave Worcester in the wake of their departure from St George’s Lane.

Heeley admits he wanted to keep hold of Elvins then, a period that also saw then-top scorer Mike Symons join Oxford City, and is delighted to have the 28-year-old back on board.

He said: “It’s a massive boost. Of the players that have left the club, Rob Elvins, along with Mike Symons, was one we didn’t want to lose because of what he brings.

“He’s a great lad and fits in well with a super attitude and he’s a very good player.

“He left the club in uncertain times and we welcome him back with open arms. It’s a great addition.”

Denny made just one start for the Blue and Whites at the beginning of the 2012-13 campaign before leaving in search of regular first-team football.

Heeley said: “Jay was unlucky with the way we were playing at the time with just one holding midfield player. But things change and he enjoyed his time with us.

“He’s experienced and will fit well in the changing room. They are both the right type of character.”

The City boss also praised his Solihull counterpart Marcus Bignot for allowing the moves to take place.

Heeley said: “Solihull were not going to offer Rob anything next season. We asked if they would allow us to take both players and we thank them for not standing in their way.

“They could have been awkward and only let us take one but it’s not about that, it’s about the lads playing football.

“That’s how we do things and they have reciprocated the favour and I thank them for that.”

Elvins could come in for Jacob Rowe, who is nursing a groin strain, alongside Anthony Charles, while Denny may slot into midfield in the continued absence of Danny Jackman.
