NOT working the keeper was Worcester City manager Carl Heeley’s chief frustration following the 2-0 defeat at Boston United.
The visitors were always in with a shout while trailing 1-0 but came up short in the final third despite plenty of second-half endeavour.
Heeley said: “We were playing against a strong wind in the first-half and they scored an early goal, which was frustrating.
“But we kept ourselves in there, scrapped and were indebted to Ryan Boot a couple of times. We did the ugly things but in the second-half I was slightly disappointed we didn’t work the keeper enough.
“We could have nicked a point but unfortunately they broke and got the second goal that killed the game off.
“There were times when we worked the ball into wide situations and we passed up the opportunity to put the ball into a danger area.
“Boston are going to have a chance because they score goals. We’ve had a problem scoring goals, that’s been our Achilles heel all season. We’re into the last month of the season now and it’s not going to change.”
He continued: “We’ve got quite a physical presence down the middle of the park with Mike Symons and then swapping him for Aaron Brown but, that said, I thought the Boston centre-half Carl Piergianni did incredibly well. He was competitive, battled against them and won lots of headers and we found it difficult to breach.”
Kyle Haynes started the match in midfield, a position Rob Elvins finished the contest in after being moved forward in the second-half.
“I was going to start Rob in there with Jay and Ellis but I just felt Rob and Jay were too similar,” Heeley explained.
“We thought we’d have a look at putting Kyle in there just to give us a little bit of energy.”
Midfielder Dean Waldron was unavailable for the second match running because of a hamstring injury.
