PHIL Jaques could miss the closing weeks of the new season for Worcestershire if he is called into Australia's one-day squad for their rearranged one-day series in Zimbabwe in early September and the Twenty20 World Cup in South Africa later in the month.

Jaques remains on the fringes of both Australia's Test and one-day sides, despite being omitted from the World Cup squad after an indifferent domestic one-day season for New South Wales.

Jaques scored 251 Ford Ranger Cup runs at 25.1 in 10 innings, way below his overall first-class batting average of 57.68, but when he is on song, the left-hander is highly rated by the national selectors.

Cricket Australia (CA) spokesman Peter Young confirmed Australia will play three one-day internationals in Zimbabwe as the cricket minnow does not win back Test status until November.

CA and the Australian Cricketers Association will wait until August before sending a security delegation to Zimbabwe to determine whether the country is safe to visit.

Jaques has scored only 125 runs in his previous six limited overs internationals.
