STOURPORT Swifts boss Phil Mullen believes his defenders are costing his side vital points in their bid to avoid relegation.

The Walshes Meadow side remain third-from-bottom of Southern League Division One Midlands after three straight defeats, conceding 12 goals in the process.

The latest setback came in Wednesday's 6-2 loss at Woodford United following 2-1 and 4-0 home defeats against Rushall Olympic and Sutton Coldfield Town respectively.

But Mullen thinks the team are playing well and are being let down by their experienced back-line, who gave away two goals in a minute in mid-week.

The manager said: "I am not going to sit back and let it happen.

"We are just not doing it defensively at the moment.

"I am in charge so I have got to do something about it.

"Believe it or not, we played some excellent stuff at Woodford and at 3-2 we were bossing the game and looked like we were going to get an equaliser."

Mullen is hoping to bolster his squad with two new unnamed additions before the trip to fellow strugglers Bishops Cleeve on Saturday Midfielder Craig Webb remains the only injury doubt with a groin problem.
