ASSISTANT boss Andy Morrison says he has been 'overwhelmed' by the response to his damning attack on a section of Worcester City fans.

Morrison claims he has had nothing but a positive reaction to comments against a handful of supporters he says post anti-City poison' on an independent message board.

His words sparked a debate of more than 200 messages on the web forum, some in support but most criticising the assistant manager's actions and one even calling for him to be sacked.

Ex-Manchester City defender Morrison, though, felt he received a warm reception from fans both before and after Tuesday's 3-3 draw at Hinckley United.

He said: "You are never sure how people are going to take that sort of strong opinion but I was overwhelmed with the reception I got from the fans and I want to thank them for that.

"I was surprised how many people said I had echoed their opinions and that it needed to be said.

"After the game, the fans came over and a couple came up to me before the game."

City host second-placed Hyde United at St George's Lane tomorrow (3pm), looking to build on Tuesday's last-gasp point given to them by Chris Smith's headed equaliser five minutes into injury-time.

Morrison, who made his comments after confronting a City fan at Droylsden last Saturday, added: "It will be interesting to see what our home fans are like tomorrow but the away fans were fantastic. Apart from people who have said, Have you looked at the message board?', it's all been positive."

Andy Preece's second in command also claimed the players were fed up with the internet postings which he felt caused unrest on the terraces.

He said: "They are aware things have been said. I know a few are quite happy something's been said and that hopefully something can be done about it. That's it now and we must put it to bed."

Worcester chairman Dave Boddy said he was aware of Morrison's views but preferred not to comment further on the issue.

One long-term City supporter said on our website at www.thisiswcfc.co.uk: "The people who pay week after week to watch a football team have a right to an opinion on the way it is playing."
