An investigation has been launched after pornography was found on computers at a local authority headquarters.

More than a dozen Renfrewshire Council staff based in Paisley are to go before a panel of senior managers after the alleged internet misuse.

It is understood the inquiry centres around staff accused of accessing and storing pornographic or obscene images on computers.

Others face action for using computers to send private emails and using facilities for non work-related matters. The police have not been informed and the staff involved remain at work.

A council spokesman refused to comment on what sort of material was involved for fear of prejudicing the disciplinary process, which is expected to begin next week.

He said disciplinary hearings have been scheduled in the coming weeks and if breaches of policy are identified, disciplinary procedures can be taken forward.
