Kidderminster 2, Northwich 0 KIDDERMINSTER Harriers moved closer to the prospect of a dream FA Trophy final appearance at Wembley after this comfortable first-leg victory over Northwich.

Aggborough's biggest crowd of the season - 2,383 -watched in delight as first-half goals from Gavin Hurren and James Constable put them in the driving seat.

Hurren squeezed the opening goal through a crowded penalty box on 38 minutes after good play by Mark Creighton.

Constable doubled the ad-vantage in first-half injury time, smashing in from 12 yards after Simon Russell touched on a Michael Black-wood cross.

Harriers will be hoping to finish off the Vics when the two clubs do battle in the second leg at Victoria Park next weekend.

Northwich enjoyed the better of the early play but were unable to turn their dominance into chances.

Hurren and Russell Penn both latched onto loose balls to try their luck from distance with the efforts flying high and wide of the target.

A neat move starting with strong hold-up play by Black-wood and involving Penn and Iyseden Christie culminated in Hurren flashing a fine strike inches wide of goal on 22 minutes.

Constable was able to get his head to Whitehead's free-kick on 25 minutes but his effort was too weak.

Whitehead got in a crucial interception to frustrate Mc-Carthy before Roberts' strike flew straight through to Bevan. Constable then found himself free on 29 minutes when he burst onto a clearance by Kenna only to see his low shot blocked by a defender.

Hurren then fired Harriers into a deserved 38th minute lead from 15 yards after Crei-ghton's cross and shot had both been blocked.

Seven minutes later Consta-ble fired a tremendous shot in from 12 yards after Russell had touched Blackwood's cross into his path.

At the start of the second- half Bevan raced off his line to avert danger when Brayson beat the off-side trap.

At the other end Russell and Constable combined down the right and the ball sat up for Penn but his volley was blocked by a defender.

Northwich continued to battle and a shot from Brayson was blocked on 55 minutes before Roberts rose well to head wide from Maynan's right wing cross.

Harriers had a let-off when Smikle - an 86th minute sub for Russell - deflected the ball into the arms of Bevan.

Harriers were getting nervous as the clock ticked down but Bevan calmed them down by cleanly collecting a corner from the last kick of the game.
