OLD Coventrians overcame Pershore 16-10 in a Midlands Three West (South) match which was re-scheduled after the original fixture went to uncontested scrums.

On that occasion, Old Coventrians won the game but the result did not stand. They made no mistake second time around.

Pershore started well and, with the wind behind them, they soon gained territorial advantage.

Fly-half James Martin kicked a penalty to give the visitors a 3-0 lead. OCs soon drew level with a penalty of their own.

The forward tussle was the key with Pershore dominating the set piece, especially the scrum.

Old Coventrians won the battle around the fringes and secured plenty of turnovers.

Pershore's attacks were too in-frequent and, although captain Martin Hope and lock Marcus Whyte were prominent with the ball in hand, mistakes meant their endeavours were fruitless.

Pershore were fortunate to go in at half-time leading. An Old Cov-entrians attack was intercepted by winger Steve Holmes and he outpaced the defence to score un-der the posts.

Martin added the kick to give Pershore a 10-3 lead going into the interval.

In the second period, Old Cov-entrians kicked the ball deep into Pershore territory - a tactic they would use to great effect for the rest of the afternoon.

While pegged back near their own line, Pershore lock Lewis Dolphin gifted OCs a penalty and three points when he was caught offside.

Pershore were struggling to get out of their own half and their kicks were not finding touch.

That allowed the home side to run straight back at them and it was only a matter of time before Pershore's defence was breached again.

An Old Coventrians winger took advantage of a Pershore mistake to make the score 11-10 and the OCs forwards claimed the last try of the match when they squeezed over following a period of prolonged pressure.

Pershore are back in league action on Saturday when they entertain Leamington at Piddle Park.
