DES Lyttle reckons Worcester City are fortunate to still be in the hunt for a play-off place.

Since losing at Welling in the FA Trophy, Andy Preece's side have amassed just 10 points from nine games. Hardly promotion form.

With just eight games left, the skipper says there is still an air of belief in the dressing room but admits the team cannot keep relying on clubs around them to slip up.

"There's still hope," Lyttle said. "To be fair, it probably should be long over but other teams keep losing or drawing and they're keeping us in it.

"It was good to get the point against Hyde but it's three points all the way in now. We will keep on going and hopefully we can just squeeze in."

Lyttle, who made it 1-1 with his first goal of the season in Saturday's 2-2 draw, now wants City to rediscover the form that saw them make a late surge for the top five last season before losing 3-0 at Droylsden.

The 35-year-old defender said: "We can't seem to do what we did last season and string the four, five or six games together to get ourselves in the play-offs. If we can just string three or four results together, that might be enough.

"I think we went to Droylsden last season having to get something out of the game but they beat us and it was all over.

"It's going down to the wire again. We know it's individual errors that are costing us at the moment and we just can't string those games together, which is what's needed. We have been on top in games. We went 2-0 up at Hinckley and couldn't see it out.

"We were on top against Hyde, couldn't get the first goal and couldn't see the game out."

Striker Craig Wilding salvaged a draw with his 89th minute goal.

Lyttle said: "We got a point out of it but it wasn't what we were looking for, we wanted the three points but it wasn't to be."

The captain added: "Games are running out. You have got to win your home games. It's disappointing, especially the way we played in the first-half. We were much the better side and we kept their two dangerous strikers quiet.

"To concede in the first couple of minutes of the second-half was disappointing."

As for his goal, Lyttle said: "It wasn't a bad one, I just closed my eyes and hit and it flew in the top corner. It was good to get the equaliser but disappointing not to get the three points."
