HARRIERS completed a season to forget with a battling defeat at Eastleigh.

The Reds certainly made the Spitfires work for their place in the Vanarama Conference play-off spots.

Danny Wright's goal after 50 seconds had handed Gary Whild's side the perfect start.

They more than matched the hosts in the first half and had chances to increase their lead.

But Eastleigh responded well after the break, with Craig Stanley bundling home the leveller, before former Harriers hitman James Constable bagged a 74th minute winner.

Manager Gary Whild made two changes from the side which drew 1-1 at Barnet last weekend, with Callum Gittings and Luke Maxwell drafted in.

Wright strode down the left wing, beyond on-rushing keeper Ross Flitney, and slotted home from tight angle.

Kevin Nicholson then spotted Flitney off the line and tried a cheeky free-kick in the sixth minute but the keeper was equal to it.

The away side were containing Eastleigh but Jack Midson headed wide from a Jai Reason free-kick.

Jack Byrne tested Flitney with a 20-yard drive but Harriers suffered a set back in the 32nd minute when Jared Hodgkiss limped off an was replaced by Jake Green.

Harriers keeper Danny Lewis then got a hand to a thumping effort from Jai Reason.

But Eastleigh stepped it up a gear in the second half and Constable saw a bullet header saved by Lewis.

Wright then had an effort cleared by Dan Spence.

But it was the hosts who were on top and they made it 1-1 in the 54th minute.

Kidderminster failed to clear a Reason corner and after a big goalmouth scramble, Stanley bundled the ball over the line.

Constable was posing a considerable threat and fired a left-footed into the side netting and then headed a good effort wide from a corner.

But he fired the hosts into the lead in the 74th minute. Reason's powerful strike from the edge of the area crashed off the base of the post before the hitman slotted home.

It was enough to seal fourth place spot for the Hampshire outfit, while Harriers finished 16th in the table.

Manager Gary Whild will now begin the process of rebuilding his squad for 2015-16 season.
