Tideway test for Worcester crews

TWO crews from Worcester Rowing Club will compete in the Tideway Head of the River race on Saturday.

Four hundred and twenty eights will row the course on the Thames in the London - the same stretch of water used in the Oxford-Cambridge Boat Race.

The following day, two more Worcester crews will take part in the veterans' version over a shorter course from Hammersmith to Mortlake.

Last month, the club held a successful head of the river event on the Severn, supported by new partners Hylton of Worcester - the Alfa Romeo, Subaru, Fiat and Hyundai dealer on Hylton Road.

Worcester members also went to Amsterdam to race in the Heineken Roeivierkamp'.

The crew of Chris Couper, Steen McCollin, Sam Dennis, Jim Swann, Andy Greenway, Richard Lee, Steve Streather, Richard Heath and cox Anne O'Connell finished fifth out of 11 in the veteran B' division - a good result for their first time in the event, A 2,500m time-trial and 250m sprint were followed by another time-trial with all three events contributing to the overall score.

High winds and hail made for difficult conditions on the twisty course.
