LEADERS Droitwich continued relentlessly in Worcestershire Cricket League Division One with a comfortable win over Burghill thanks to 6-52 from Martyn Davies.

Bewdley, who were previously unbeaten in second place, came crashing back down to earth with a bump, losing at home to sixth-placed Redditch as Waqas Ali took 5-27.

Droitwich’s chasing pack is now led by Worcester Nomads after their crushing victory over Colwall thanks to 138 scored by Innocent Kaia and 7-49 claimed by Rich Henry.

Nomads are 11 points behind Droitwich and seven in front of Pershore, who registered another clinical win at home to Belbroughton with Will Green continuing his early form, scoring 78.

Oldswinford sit just behind Redditch after recording their second victory, this time at the expense of winless Bromyard, who are now tied with Pedmore in the drop zone.

Hagley won again, beating joint-bottom Pedmore, and are in fourth place, seven behind Pershore and four ahead of Bewdley.

On Saturday, in the final round of win-lose matches until August 22, Droitwich are at home again, this time to Bewdley, who will be looking to bounce back at the first attempt, Worcester Nomads go to Belbroughton while Pershore visit Redditch.

In Division Two, there is a tight bunch at the top of the table with just five points covering the top four sides.

Stourport edged in front of former leaders Cookley, who could only manage to hold on for a bonus-points draw at Bredon.

Stourport’s rush to a one-point lead at the top has come with four victories and a winning draw but they only just won at home to Enville thanks to Lee Waldron’s 6-45.

Worcester Dominies are third, three points behind Cookley following a comprehensive defeat of Harborne thanks to 6-46 for Steve Williams.

The four sides have a 20-point advantage over Wormelow in fifth after they thrashed Evesham.

Coombs Wood beat Lye with 90 coming from the bat of Carl Whyte despite 6-59 taken by Aziz Rehman.

However, the most remarkable stat of the day was Tom Coulson’s 10-18 in Feckenham’s match at home to Malvern.

That is the second best ever bowling analysis in the league following Neil Evans’ 10-8 for Cutnall Green two years ago.

On Saturday, Stourport host Dominies and Cookley must go to Wormelow.

In Division Three, it is also pretty close with 11 points covering the top five sides.

Bartestree stayed top by beating Claverley thanks to another five-wicket haul from Luke Sparrow.

Two points back are Alvechurch and Hopwood, who got a maximum 24 by defeating bottom side Alveley.

Himbleton are in the hunt in third after beating Avoncroft, while Netherton won at Rushwick.

Chaddesley Corbett stand fifth after a win at Cleobury Mortimer and Ross-on-Wye travelled to Worcester's Old Vigornians but came away empty-handed as the old boys recorded their first win of the season.

Kempsey continue to head the Division Four table, beating Bromsgrove thirds by seven wickets, and now lead Barnards Green thirds, who beat Harvington thanks to six wickets from Lewis Hooper, by 13 points.

Bromsgrove slipped to fifth as both Kidderminster Victoria thirds, who only managed a losing draw at winless Hanley Castle and Upton, and Five Ways Old Edwardians, victors over Halesowen thirds thanks to 102 from Dave Potter, both overtook them.

Oldswinford and Stourbridge Social thirds beat Martley and Himley had a winning draw with Old Hill thirds.

Division Five at last had a couple of draws. Astwood Bank thirds welcomed back Tom Pedley for a rare outing and he repaid them with 133 at basement boys Old Elizabethans thirds.

However, Bank did not have things all their own way as Sam Langston weighed in with 125 not out to lift his side to 199-9 and denied the leaders maximum points with his first century.

Tenbury are waiting for Astwood Bank to slip and won their fourth successive match to go to within two points of the top team by beating Redditch thirds with Marc Yarranton grabbing a hat-trick.

Stourport thirds beat Stourbridge thirds and are third, four points behind Tenbury, and West Malvern are fourth, another four points back, following a nine-wicket demolition of Enville thirds.

The second of the draws saw Hallow move up three places from the foot of the table as they racked up 298-7 in their overs thanks mainly to 160no scored by Greg Fowler.

In reply, Barnt Green thirds made a plucky 217-7 with Ed Rhodes hitting 89no.

On Saturday, Astwood Bank entertain neighbours Redditch and Tenbury host Stourbridge.
