GOALKEEPER Nathan Vaughan is the surprise player among three who have committed to Worcester City for the coming season.

Full-back Tyler Weir, 24, forward Daniel Nti, 22, and Vaughan, 33, have all agreed deals to help lead City into a testing National League North campaign.

The experienced Vaughan had decided to leave the Aggborough tenants due to work commitments in the motor industry but City joint managers Carl Heeley and Matt Gardiner were keen to change his mind.

Heeley said: "We always wanted to keep Nathan and are delighted we've come to an agreement. We have managed to work something around his job commitments.

"We could have signed half-a-dozen keepers in the meantime but Nathan was the one for us."

The former Kidderminster Harriers and Evesham United keeper could again be backed up by 38-year-old Jose Veiga, who will return to pre-season training with City.

Weir and Nti staying was not unexpected with the latter stating his desire to remain with City earlier this month after bagging 15 goals in 49 appearances last term.

Milton Keynes-based Nti is happy at the club and believes another season with Worcester will help his development as a player, particularly in linking up with new signing Ryan Rowe from Brackley Town.

Ex-Hereford United full-back Weir had also previously said he wanted to stay at City once he returned from a summer trip to Australia.
